SAN FRANCISCO (May 15, 2012) – W San Francisco is pleased to announce the launch of an enhanced weeknight Happy Hour experience at UPSTAIRS Bar – the hotel’s aptly named stylish bar and lounge, featuring signature cocktails and shared plates crafted from seasonal, local and organic ingredients. Every Monday through Friday from 5 -7 p.m., the chic, newly redesigned second floor drink boutique invites guests to “upgrade” their happy hour sips and bites and enjoy exclusive specials on items from the UPSTAIRS Bar menu. With a cool, relaxed atmosphere and a menu with an attractive price point, Happy Hour at UPSTAIRS Bar is the ultimate insider destination to experience some of the best in food and drink that San Francisco has to offer.

Happy Hour at UPSTAIRS includes specials on select food and drink items from the full bar menu, all crafted from local, organic and sustainable ingredients. Guests who are ready either to kick back or ignite the night can enjoy the signature “Less than Zero,” an extra-chilled martini made with frozen Stoli Elite, Lillet Blanc and blue cheese-stuffed olives, for $9; local sparkling wine Schramsberg Mirabelle for $10 a glass; Bison Single Hop Organic IPA for $6 a bottle; and any premium spirit cocktail at the well price of $11.
For the oenophiles in the house, full carafes of all four sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic wines on tap are offered at half carafe prices as well as by-the-glass, inviting guests to enjoy peak-quality wines poured perfectly fresh. Featured wines on tap are 2010 Pushback Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley; GL: $10; Half: $30; Full: $60); 2010 Tangent Pinot Gris (Edna Valley; GL: $10; Half: $30; Full: $60); 2008 Paul Dolan Pinot Noir (Mendocino County; GL: $14; Half: $42; Full: $84); and 2009 Qupè Grenache (Edna Valley; GL: $12; Half: $36; Full: $72).
“Throughout Europe, wines have been flowing from taps for hundreds of years,” Pace noted. “Today, both innovative and established winemakers are producing wines that are perfectly crafted to be served straight from their barrel at the winery to the barrel underneath the tap at our bar, without the need for bottles, labels, or corks. At W San Francisco, guests can sip and enjoy, knowing that they are experiencing the wine exactly as the winemaker intended, while also doing one’s part to save the planet -- one glass at a time.”
For guests craving some sustenance, the Happy Hour menu offers delicious shared plates ($6 each), created to pair perfectly with select sips on the Happy Hour menu. Executive Chef Paul Piscopo’s menu includes Kennebec Potato Chips with Dill Ranch and American Sturgeon Caviar; Crispy Halibut and Asparagus Fries with Spring Garlic Aioli; TRACE Chicken Nuggets with Sweet and Sour Chili Sauce; Dungeness Crab Brandade on House-made Crostini; and Albacore Tartare with Miso, Cilantro and Crispy Corn Chips.
“The idea behind the food and drink options on the happy hour menu is that they are meant for pairings,” added Pace. “Take chips with caviar dip and sparkling wine, for example. Champagne has been classically paired with caviar for some time and is also an excellent pairing for any fried food. Chips and caviar are a natural pairing for the Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut, Napa Valley and a fantastic Happy Hour combination.”
The full menu at UPSTAIRS Bar features an extensive list of cocktails crafted from local and organic ingredients and liquors; four sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic wines on tap; a selection of premium California wines; and nearly a dozen local beers, both bottled and on tap. Piscopo’s menu includes seasonal appetizers, shared plates, and a late night menu. UPSTAIRS invites guests to mix and mingle at the bar or relax in its intimate, tucked away spaces.
